What is a website check-up?

A website check-up is a free, automated audit of how your site performs for visitors and search engines. Site Check-up tests speed with Google PageSpeed Insights, reviews SEO, mobile, accessibility and trust, scores each out of 100, and names the changes most likely to win you customers.

What we check

01

Performance

Real Google Lighthouse data on mobile and desktop: load time, layout stability and what is slowing you down.

02

SEO & AI search

Titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap and structured data, plus whether ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity are allowed to read and recommend you.

03

Mobile & UX

How your site feels on the phone in your customer’s hand, where most visits happen.

04

Accessibility

Alt text, language, heading order and contrast checks, so everyone can use your site.

05

Trust & Conversion

HTTPS, contact options, WhatsApp, testimonials and clear calls to action that turn visits into enquiries.

Why it matters

Google found that 53% of mobile visits are abandoned when a page takes longer than 3 seconds to load. A faster, clearer site usually means more enquiries from the traffic you already have.

How your score is calculated

Your overall score is a weighted average of five sections. Speed and SEO carry the most weight because they decide whether people find your site and stay on it.

Mobile & UX15%

Trust & Conversion15%

The speed targets we use

We use Google’s published “good” thresholds for Core Web Vitals, measured on a mobile connection:

MetricGood
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)Under 2.5 seconds
Interaction to Next Paint (INP)Under 200 milliseconds
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)Under 0.1

Thresholds from web.dev/vitals. INP needs real-visitor data, so in the lab test we report Total Blocking Time (good is under 200ms) as its stand-in. Scores of 90+ are “Excellent”, 75–89 “Strong foundation”, 55–74 “Good, with clear wins ahead”.

Questions

What is a website audit?+

A website audit is a check of how well a site performs for visitors and search engines. It measures loading speed, SEO basics, mobile usability, accessibility and trust signals, then lists what to fix first. Site Check-up runs one automatically in about 30 seconds using Google PageSpeed Insights and its own page checks.

What is a good website score?+

On Site Check-up, 90 or above is excellent and 75 to 89 is a strong foundation. Scores of 55 to 74 mean clear, fixable wins are available. Below 55 usually means a few changes, often images and page titles, could make a big difference to speed and search visibility.

What are Core Web Vitals?+

Core Web Vitals are Google’s three measures of real-world page experience: Largest Contentful Paint (good is under 2.5 seconds), Interaction to Next Paint (under 200 milliseconds) and Cumulative Layout Shift (under 0.1). They are part of how Google evaluates pages. Site Check-up reports LCP and CLS for your mobile site, plus Total Blocking Time as a lab stand-in for INP.

Does website speed affect SEO?+

Yes. Page experience, including Core Web Vitals, is one of the signals Google uses. Speed also affects whether visitors stay: Google’s research found 53% of mobile visits are abandoned when a page takes longer than 3 seconds to load. Faster pages usually mean more visitors who stick around and enquire.

How do I check my website speed for free?+

Paste your address into Site Check-up. It runs Google PageSpeed Insights on mobile and desktop, then explains the results in plain English with the specific changes most likely to help, such as compressing images or removing unused scripts. You can also use Google PageSpeed Insights directly for the raw data.

Is the website audit really free?+

Yes. You get your score and highlights instantly, and the full report once you confirm your email. No card, no catch.

How long does the check-up take?+

Usually 20 to 40 seconds. We run Google PageSpeed Insights on mobile and desktop and read your page ourselves.

What do you do with my email?+

We send your report and, if you opt in, occasional tips. You can unsubscribe anytime. See our privacy page.

Will this tell me why my site is not ranking?+

It covers the on-page and technical basics that most affect rankings and conversions, with specific next steps. A full strategy needs a deeper look, which we are happy to do.
